Over

Highworth is an ancient hilltop Market Town and the perfect place to visit as you travel along the Great West Way.  The centre of this historic town is a conservation area with the beautiful 13th Century St. Michaels Church at its heart. Highworth has a fascinating history from being a Cavalier stronghold during the civil war, to the Highworth Post Mistress who was crucial to Churchill’s Secret army of Resistance that trained at nearby Coles Hill, now a National Trust Estate.  Join a guided tour to find out more including Highworth’s unusual link to ABBA.

There are independent cafes and restaurants as well as traditional pubs with welcoming open fires for the colder months and beautiful gardens when the sun is shining.  Independent shops line the High Street and every Saturday there is a bustling Market in the Market Square.

Highworth Visitor’s Centre houses the Highworth Museum in the unusual setting of a Bank’s strong room.  It’s an Arts and Craft centre showcasing handmade pieces by local Artists and Makers.

Pentyland’s Country Park is in West Highworth, a must for nature enthusiasts. If you would like to discover wildlife both native and visiting, take a guided “Wildlife walk with a camera”.  There are many walking trails where you can experience the tranquil rural scenery stretching into Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire.

Highworth loves a celebration and May Day is one of the highlights with live music, children’s entertainment as well as craft stalls, traditional Green Man Parade and May Pole dancing. In July Wydre Up Musical festival takes place, a family event with bands playing into the summer evening.

Practice you swing at the 18 Hole Golf course and driving range or work out in the Recreation Centre and take a dip in the indoor pool.

There really is something for everyone!
