The Bristol Wing is a boutique hostel in Bristol city centre. After an extensive restoration, we opened for the first time in 2018 in the Grade II listed old Police Headquarters. Over lockdown, our building was sublet to take in the street homeless and offer shelter during the pandemic. We began our second restoration in the summer of 2022 and we are pleased to welcome the community back to our lovely boutique hostel!
Our location is second to none, only a short walk from some of the best bits of Bristol. Bristol’s harbourside for sunny walks and funky bars, Bristol Shopping Quarter for the big chains, the Old City for historic buildings, great coffee and lunch, Park Street and Clifton for independent shopping and fantastic places to eat, and Bristol Bus Station and Temple Meads Railway station for transport links to the rest of the region. They are all within easy reach on foot, and there are local buses on our door step (well a 30 second walk from our door step) to the rest of the city.
We offer great quality, great value accommodation with a warm welcome in a beautiful building. It’s bursting with character with original wooden and stone floors, and the caged lift dating back to 1928 that runs through the centre of the stair well (don’t worry it’s been completely refurbished!). And of course, we’re not part of a big chain so you get a local, personal experience. In the rooms and throughout the building you’ll find an eclectic mix of artwork donated to us by UWE Bristol’s MA Multidisciplinary Printmaking students and alum, so you get a true taste of Bristol creativity!
As a hostel, we really believe in bringing people together. We love it when people from different cultures, countries, backgrounds and regions meet each other. The heart of the hostel is our reception area which has a very homely lounge area and a fully equipped kitchen. This is where you will meet new people over the washing up, or strike up a conversation when you’re eating breakfast. Our communal hang-out areas are the perfect spaces to exchange stories of travelling adventures and find out the best tips for the next leg of your journey.
As a hostel we love a party – and there are many places to party just a stone’s throw away – but we like to keep things quiet and relaxed at The Bristol Wing so when you’re hanging out in reception or get back to your bed at night you can get some rest and be ready for your next day in Bristol.
We’ve got a mix of different room types to suit different people and different budgets.:
- Great value bunks in shared dorms, which can either be booked by individuals these can be exclusively booked out by groups.
- Family rooms (some en-suite, some with shared bathrooms) – we love welcoming families and children to The Bristol Wing
- Singles, Doubles, and triples (some shared, some private bathrooms)
- Small private rooms for groups of up to five (some en-suite, some with shared bathrooms)
- A fully accessible double room with an en-suite bathroom.
If you would like to come and stay as a group – get in touch with us and we can give you advice on which rooms would work best for you.
If you need a private lounge or meeting room, The Snug is available to hire by guests. It’s a lovely space – perfect for a group of tired school children to watch a DVD at the end of a busy day of sightseeing, or a team building workshop or board meeting.
As if all that wasn’t good enough, we also have the ultimate feelgood factor – the The Bristol Wing is a social enterprise owned and managed by local charity YMCA Brunel Group. As well as providing our guests with a top-notch experience while staying in Bristol, our other core mission is to reinvest our profits into support for young people at risk. So by staying with us, you are making a massive difference to young people in our community who really need your support.
And did we mention taht we have great environmental credentials – with a number of measures in place to reduce our carbon emissions? These include wood fibre insulation throughout the building to reduce heat loss, solar panels on our roof to generate electricity and high-performance windows (which keep the warm in and the hustle and bustle of the city centre out). We’ve also installed swift and starling nesting boxes on the roof, and we reduce our waste as much as possible, and recycle everything that we can.

We would prefer all of our customers took advantage of our proximity to public transport services, but we recognise that isn’t always possible. We are in Bristol City Centre, so most sat navs will bring you to the right place. Our address is The Bristol Wing, 9 Bridewell Street, Bristol BS1 2QD. We don’t have any car parking on site, but there are NCP and shopping centre car parks very close by.
Local NCP car parks (Nelson Street and Rupert Street) or shopping centre car parks (Cabot Circus or The Galleries). Check websites for details:
