Where can you find an incredible site that witnessed the Wars of the Roses, the dissolution of the monasteries, and Henry VIII’s exploding corpse? What about a house whose residents were explorers, scientists and sorcerers, who welcomed a visit from Pocahontas? Where would you teach a young Princess Victoria her ‘Queen’ lessons? At Syon Park in Brentford of course! The London home of the Dukes of Northumberland for over four hundred years
Come and visit to hear how every British monarch since Henry V and many other illustrious characters have walked the corridors of this profoundly historic site, danced and supped in its rooms, enjoyed its botanical gardens, and had their fair share of heartaches and happiness, both above and below stairs. All set in original Robert Adam neo-classical interiors and serene Capability Brown-designed Arcadian landscapes.
Syon Park is an historic site like no other, a castle with Tudor foundations, built on the site of a 15th Century abbey. Syon is set in 200-acres of parkland. A site of Special Scientific Interest, with pastures grazed by cattle since the 18th Century, and the only remaining natural tidal meadow along the Thames in London.
There’s lots to do for families, natural play areas in the gardens, activities in the school holidays, lots of wildlife on the lake, an arboretum full of champion trees from all over the world, and a stunning Great Conservatory designed by Charles Fowler (who designed Covent Garden Apple Market), and was the inspiration for Joseph Paxton’s Crystal Palace. Immerse yourself in centuries of history, and relax in the beautiful grounds. Allow two to three hours to visit both the House and Gardens.
Syon is also a wedding venue and a famous film and TV location. Seen onscreen in many popular productions including: Bridgerton, Belgravia, Alice Through the Looking Glass, Killing Eve, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Endeavour, Nutcracker and the Four Realms, The Diplomat, and many more.
